Carrie gently tucked her small german shephard puppy Maggie into a big, soft backpack that the puppy tended to hide in back at the lodge. Silently shepicked it up, careful to make sure the small dog was comfertable. She looked around, darkness of night swallowed most everything and no one else could be out this late... quietly she jogged down to the stable and ducked inside, letting out a huge sigh once she was in the confort of the horses. A few stirred and a couple nickered as she moved past each one. The race mare Mindy stuck her nose out and whoofed at the girl, ears pricked in her direction. Carrie stopped for a moment to caress the filly, then moved on to the stall of her own horse Promise. The tall dapple grey had known her owner was coming, and she nickered sweetly apon her approach. Without a word Carrie lifted the simple hackamore from her shoulder and pulled it onto Promise's face, smiling as the sweet mare lowered her head to aid in her tacking up. Quickly Carrie unlatched the stall door, clucking to her horse as she moved out. The two moved towards the door as they had done many times before, and slipped carefully outside.
Carrie steadied her mare easily and cradled the backpack with Maggie caringly before she lept aboard, letting Promise sidestep a little before checking on the dog once more. Fast asleep, Maggie lay curled up in the bottom of the backpack as always. Satisfied that they had gotten this far, Carrie gave the barest, most invisible cue to her mount, and they surged off onto the trails by cover of darkness. Moonlight reflected off the pretty mares gleaming silver coat as the two creatures morphed into one brilliant creature. Reaching one hand behind her head, Carrie pulled loose her long brunette locks and let them dance about her pale face, trying to enjoy their midnight gallop, but many unwanted memories consumed her thoughts.
wasnt this why she always did what she did? rode off into the moonlight, undaunted by anything and everything that comes through her path in the moments she spend enjoying the magic of her horses pounding hooves carrying her far away from the past and the future, far away from reality. but this time she couldnt seem to be feeling the old helplessness and sense of being unknown again. Here she was, a stranger to this entire lifestyle. She moved here to start over, but how do you start over without letting go of the past?
she wrestled with these thoughts, turning them over and inside out every which way until she didnt understand any of them anymore. She let Promise move back into a rolling canter, then smooth trot and finally relaxed walk. Perhaps she should head back now... but she could stop here for a breif moment, right? right up here, at this little clearing, with the brook... grabbing a bit of her mounts mane she swung down, then perched herself on a boulder that sat overlooking a peaceful stream. Sighing, she rested her head in her hands and closed her eyes, letting the warm nuzzle of Promise's concern comfort her. Pulling the backpack around, she let the wary puppy wander out from her dark hiding place and began stroking the slick brown and black fur. Suddenly her cheeks were wet, and eyes burned and blurred. Was she crying, or was it raining? both. Silent tears fell, shedding hatred and pain and hardships. She should head back now, but she couldnt. Rain cleaned her, dripping off her hair and running down her cheeks so no one would be able to tell she was upset over everything that could go wrong and had.
((hehe, long post, i felt like making a long post lol))
